Displays, Activities, Demonstrations, Food, Fun, Games, and Fire Truck Rides

The Open House is a fun filled evening for kids of all ages and adults. The evening is packed with fire and life safety activities, exhibits, and demonstrations. This is an educational event that has an array of interactive opportunities. 

 As always, Sparky the fire dog and Freddie the fire truck are available for photos and offer a great learning experience for your younger children.

There is onsite parking, firefighters, and plenty of free hot dogs, Kowalski's cookies, Caribou Coffee, treats and beverages.

MINNETONKA POLICE DEPARTMENT K-9 DEMONSTRATION  

Police Officers will show you how a K-9 dog is trained.

Watch the K-9 dog preform the many skills they must have to assist their police officer partners.  

Learn how K-9 dogs are selected to become part of the K-9 Team.

THINGS TO DO

 Fire Truck Rides: Get in line early so you don’t miss all the action.

Firefighter Gear Station is where you can try on real firefighter gear and helmets. Great photo opportunities, so don’t forget the camera.

Sparky the Fire Dog:  He will be available all evening to shake hands, give out hugs, and to pose for pictures. 

Freddie the Fire Truck: Come talk to Freddie about fire safety.

Sparky’s Spray House:  Spray a real fire hose and spin the windows.

Fire Prevention Fishing Pond: Earn your bait by participating in educational activities throughout the open house and then go fishing for fun surprises.

THINGS TO SEE

National Sprinkler Association:  A Representative will be here to answer your questions about commercial and residential sprinklers.

Hennepin County 9-1-1 Dispatch will have a 9-1-1 dispatcher available to answer questions about new dispatching technology and talk about what kids need to know about calling 9-1-1 in today’s world.

American Red Cross can answer your questions and show you how to be “Red Cross Ready” by being prepared for an emergency or natural disaster.

CenterPoint Energy: Stop by their booth and learn more about pipeline safety and sign up for a free Carbon Monoxide Detector

Hennepin County Medical Center Burn Unit: Learn how to prevent burns and see their mouth dropping display.

Deephaven Police Department:  Meet your local police officers and learn about Safety. 

Current Electric Systems will show you how important Electrical Safety is in your home.

Hennepin County Regional Poison Center: Learn how to prevent poisonous exposures. Each year, Poison Centers handle over 1 million potentially poisonous exposures in children. These poisonings like all accidents can be prevented.

Knewtson Health Group: Get good advice about your child’s school backpack and how to take the load off of your child’s back.

Hennepin County Sherriff’s Water Patrol Display: Checkout all types of water rescue equipment they use and the watercrafts they depend on for water emergencies

Lindstrom Restoration will show you the devastating aftermath of residential fires and inform you have to prevent a fire.

Salvation Army Canteen: See the newest member of the Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Fleet. A New Salvation Army Canteen will be on display. Learn more about the Salvation Army’s roll in emergencies. Volunteers will be handing out water, hot cocoa, and coffee.

Dem-Com Recycling Trailer shares information on how to prevent lithium batteries from causing a fire at your home, while charging, and when you travel.

ResourceWest Hopkins and Minnetonka Family Services will be collecting coats and schools supplies.

I.C.A. Food Shelf: Bring a non-perishable food item to help stock the shelves of the local foodshelf for the holidays.

Excelsior Fire District Inaugural Poster Contest

The Excelsior Fire District is joining fire departments across Minnesota in participating in the Annual MSFCA Fire Prevention Poster Contest The MSFCA poster contest is a partnership with local public, private and home schools. Students in 3rd grade are encouraged to create a poster for a chance to be featured as the cover for an issue of the Minnesota State Fire Chiefs Association Fire Chief magazine. Winners will also receive cash and other prizes. Each poster must follow the theme that is chosen for that year.
