The event is Thursday, October 9th from 6:00-8:30. Guest do arrive as early as 5:30. Volunteers are asked to arrive by 5:30 pm. at the latest and stay a least until 8:30 pm. When you arrive contact Dana George at the fire truck loading area.

The fire truck rides are the main attraction at the Fire Prevention Open House. The volunteers in this area can help load the trucks or unload the truck. This job required lifting.

Loading: You will asset the children and adult up into the cab of the truck. The steps to get into the trucks are a challenge for those with shorter legs and smaller stature. Once the guests are loaded they will need assistance with their seat belts. When closing the door for the guest, remind them to keep their fingers and toes away from the door.

The person loading the front passenger seat will tell everyone in the truck the engineers name and wish them a fun ride.

Unloading: when the truck come to a compete stop you will asset guest down from the fire truck. The steps to get out of the trucks are a challenge for those with shorter legs and smaller stature. Some children are simply lifted from the truck to the ground.

I encourage you to wear items the represent your company and/or city and name tags if you wish. If you are volunteering from another fire department, please feel free to wear a t-shirt or uniform that represents your department. The Open House is a great opportunity for citizens to meet their local business owners, firefighters from other departments, Council Members, and Mayors. You have been kind enough to volunteer your time to our event and we do want the citizens to know who our wonderful volunteers are and what company/city/organization they represent.  Please be aware that the Fire District does not allow any soliciting or campaigning at Fire District sponsored events. During election time candidates are welcome to wear items that identify them as a candidates and a campaign button. The Fire District does not allow businesses or those running for office to randomly hand out business and/or campaign materials, buttons, and business cards. We ask that business cards only be handed out upon a request from a person(s) attending a Fire District event.

Dinner is free, we serve grilled hotdogs, coffee, McDonalds Orange drink, cookies, and popcorn. Yes, it is a well balanced meal.

Citizen volunteers, please park in the Shorewood public works parking lot near the back of the lot. Firefighter’s vehicles should be already parked in the area. Off of county Road 19 you would turn North by the gray Fire District sign and follow the road straight through the gate. You can enter through the building.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact Kelly Murphy-Ringate at 952-960-1692 or
kmurphyringate@excelsiorfire.org

Additional and/or updated information will be sent out a week prior to the open house.
